The Oregon Coast Arts Council is presenting Reedsport Painter Elyan Jamot through July 31 in the Oregon Coast Visual Artists (COVAS) Showcase at the Newport Visual Arts Center. Jamot’s exhibition, “Oregon Cordially,” features his outdoor oil paintings of southern Oregon landscapes.
The Artists Showcase features mid-career artists living on the Oregon Coast and rotates between Oregon’s seven coastal counties, with Jamot representing Douglas County. In accordance with current COVID-19 protocols, a gallery reception with the artist is currently not scheduled, although interviews and online events are scheduled for July.
Born and raised in France, Elyan Jamot has exhibited her paintings in Norman museums and hotels. Now based in Reedsport, she is currently exhibiting her work at the Mind Gallery and the Umpqua Lighthouse Museum in Winchester Bay. She has also participated in various exhibitions with the Dunes Art Club in Florence. Past exhibitions also include San Diego Community College (Pacific Beach) and the Orleans Gallery in Richmond (UK). She studied painting at various local and foreign institutions, and returns regularly to Europe to paint and exhibit there.
“I spend most of my time exploring the world and painting, very influenced by the life of Paul Gauguin,” said Jamot. “My favorite medium is petroleum because of its potency and timeless qualities. “
The Newport Visual Arts Center is open Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m.
The Oregon Coast Council for the Arts manages the Newport Visual Arts Center and the Newport Performing Arts Center and serves as the regional arts council for Oregon’s seven coastal counties.
