ILKLEY-based artist Kwan Bevan presents a solo exhibition at Ilkley Art Studio from December 17-19.
Kwan, who after graduating in fine arts mainly focused on abstracts and drawing from nature, said, “The majority of the paintings in this exhibition were produced during the ‘lockdown’. With time forced on my hands, I spent hours studying travel photographs (mine and those of others). I decided to produce a series of paintings from some of the most attractive photographs.
“The photos I used to develop my paintings are only used as a reference. I do not aim to produce a photographic reproduction. I want to be free to use colors and make designs to describe both my mood and my reaction to the scene. I am studying a photograph of a tower and I want to transform it from Blackpool to Paris !!
“I like to encourage the viewer to see my painting through the lens of a telescope. Stimulate their imaginations to recall places with similar characteristics that they themselves have visited.
“Next to these latest paintings, there are a few pieces of my abstract work. These pieces explore the integration of Eastern and Western abstract art.
The Mixed Media Exhibition ‘Phase 2’ takes place at Ilkley Art Studio, Manor House Courtyard, Ilkley LS29 8DT, December 17-19, 2021, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
