Ohio University Art Gallery will present the exhibition Monica Mixer | News, Sports, Jobs

ST. CLAIRSVILLE – The Ohio University Eastern Art Gallery will present an exhibition of paintings by Monica Mixer starting Monday, with an opening reception at 7 p.m. on October 1 at the gallery.

The exhibition will present the “Explorations” collection of paintings by Monica Mixer.

“This exhibition means freedom”, said the artist. “The freedom to explore various color palettes and compositions. Freedom to create without expectations. The freedom to damage a canvas and then roll it up, just because it’s fun to do.

Mixer considers herself an abstract artist.

“This collection of works is an expression of where I am as an artist. I create intuitively. What is shown on the canvas is a direct reflection of my mood at the time of the creation of each piece. I am easily inspired. I do not approach a canvas with a plan in mind. I don’t plan my colors or my composition. I look at my supplies and enter the color, medium or branding tool that calls me right now. Often times I can get lost in the process and need to step back to get some perspective on where I want the piece to go. Sometimes I leave the room alone for weeks. It depends on my mood. she said.

Mixer resides in St. Clairsville. She received a Bachelor of Integrative Arts from Penn State University. She hopes the exhibit will not only entertain visitors, but inspire others to pick up a brush and create freely.

The exhibition runs until October 21. The Ohio University Eastern Art Gallery is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
