New Delhi [India], December 22 (ANI / GIPR): Between December 14 and 20, 2021, the prestigious Jehangir Art Gallery in Mumbai hosted “Maya”, an exhibition by artist Kanan Khant depicting the historic folk art of Kalamkari for express the feminine energy that animates the universe. The exhibition was well received by the visitors who also appreciated the beautiful depiction of the stories of Radha and Krishna in some of the paintings. Kanan dedicated his works to forgotten Indian artisans, especially women. Kanan explained his thought process behind the famous “Maya” series as follows: “I combine the feminine elements of spirituality and mythology. I have also adapted the beautiful Kalamkari art form into my work. Most don’t. not know it years ago, artists who traveled from village to village, used Kalamkari to tell their stories. I, too, tell a story through my art. At the opening of the exhibition, Kanan expressed his joy at being exhibited in the prestigious art gallery and admitted that “I am constantly learning, I am experiencing as a student of life”.

Describing her experience, Tanmay said: “The work is fantastic, each painting shows how meticulously she worked to create what she has. Exhibiting at Jehangir is a huge achievement in and of itself.” Dr Kothari also praised Kanan, saying, “Kanan’s paintings emote, they come to life. You can see how she took care of everything in detail – even the framing is so unique!”
Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah producer Aasit Modi, who visited the exhibit, said, “The works of art speak to me. They speak a million words. Actress Neha Mehta called the works of art “alive” and amazing while actor Manoj Joshi, actress Sujata Mehta and well-known scientist Dr JJ Raval also appreciated the works of art.
Kanan, who has also exhibited his works at the India Art Fair and the Nehru Center in Worli, studied commercial art at the famous Nirmal Niketan College in Mumbai.
