Renowned Japanese artist Shu Yamamoto has partnered with HTC Viveport’s virtual reality (VR) application platform to launch the ‘Step into Cat Art’ virtual exhibition, adding a new dimension to his work by enabling Cat characters in static paintings to “come to life” in VR for the first time. This unique experience will begin on Friday September 17 and will continue until March 31, 2022.
The showcase will feature virtual versions of Yamamoto’s 124 pieces The Hisstine chapel murals for the first time and will also include world famous pieces such as Mewna Lisa and The kitten with the pearl earring. The CAT ART virtual exhibition allows multiple visitors to enter the same place at the same time for a lively and immersive virtual exhibition experience. Additionally, the exhibit supports multi-device viewing on any mobile, PC, or VR device.
Further breaking the walls between art and reality, an Instagram cat filter will be launched for iOS and Android devices, allowing people to create their own adaptations of CAT ART, featuring the faces of their own pet cats. Viveport’s tech team had helped Yamamoto rethink his classic cat paintings to include dynamic movement, audio detail, and interactive elements, blasting the VR pieces out of the canvas frame.
“Viveport’s mission is to culturally enrich people in virtual reality through art, games and video, and in doing so, to continue to grow and extend the strong VIVE Metaverse around the world. It’s amazing how immersion can completely change the way you experience a moment, whether it’s appreciating artwork, watching a story or playing a game ”, said Joseph Lin, president of Viveport.
Along with the launch of the CAT ART virtual exhibit, Viveport will also launch its NFT store on September 17, 2021 to sell NFTs representing CAT ART parts. The Viveport NFT store will support fiat, ETH and Matic payments, providing consumers with more user-friendly and intuitive digital transaction options.
“Our collaboration with CAT ART by Shu Yamamoto is a fantastic example of combining art with VR and NFT in a continued expansion of the Metaverse. We hope to convey the unique perspective of the cat envisioned by Shu Yamamoto through this exhibition and provide visitors with a unique and immersive viewing and shopping experience, ”said Lin.
