On Friday, October 8, Creative 360 and Parker Lane Studios will open the first annual exhibition and symposium of emerging artists at Creative 360. The event, which was developed to support and mentor new artists from the region, is the first collaborative event between the two artistic entities in Midland.

“Creative 360 and Parker Lane Studios are both interested in supporting the work of emerging artists,” said Dacia Parker, Parker Lane Studios owner and professional artist. “There is so much more to being a professional artist than making art! We have planned this event both as an opportunity for these artists to exhibit their work, but also to connect them with experienced artists who can help them navigate what can be a confusing career path.

Friday’s event has two components. The opening of the exhibition will take place at 7 p.m. in the Creative 360 Gallery. Light snacks and drinks will be served. The award ceremony will start at 7:30 p.m.

Prizes will be awarded for the best 2D work, the best 3D work, the best photograph and the best exhibition. The jurist for the exhibit is Pat Block, a retired professor of art and design at MidMichigan College. Block is an accomplished printmaker and illustrator who is currently partnering with a regional curatorial book to create a poster series as well as a coffee table book.

In addition, there will be a series of panel discussions before the opening of the exhibition with local professional artists sharing their ideas and knowledge. Participating professionals include Valerie Allen, Terry Dickinson and Armin Mersmann. Topics for discussion will include starting a business, sources of funding, accessing galleries, and connecting with buyers and collectors. These round tables are open to all practicing artists. Interested attendees can RSVP for the free event at becreative360.org/events or by calling 989-837-1885.

“Although we have chosen our topics to attract new artists, we invite all artists to participate in these informal conversations before the opening of the exhibition,” said Laura Vosejpka, director of Creative 360. “We learn them best. each other and this roundtable is an opportunity to connect members of the regional arts community for learning and relationship building.

The exhibition will be open until November 7 at Creative 360. As is the current policy, admission to the gallery is free, but Creative 360 accepts donations that allow them to continue this inclusive practice. Creative 360 and Parker Lane Studios thank Lisa and Howard Ungerleider for their support of this event.
