(WXYZ) — No Putting about that, there’s a new mini-golf course coming to metro Detroit before the art-loving public.
Cranbrook Art Museum Announcement it will open an artist-designed mini-golf course on the grounds of the art museum on May 25.
According to a press release, Cranbrook on the Green, located in Peristyle Plaza near the Orpheus Fountain, will be open from 11 a.m. until sunset, Wednesday through Sunday, May 25 through September 25.
The nine holes would be inspired by various features of the campus and Cranbrook’s history.
“With Cranbrook on the Green, we invite the public to play while learning and exploring our incredible grounds during the summer months,” said Lyla Catellier, Curator of Public Programs at the Cranbrook Art Museum, in a press release. “We hope new visitors will get to know the Cranbrook National Historic Landmark campus through this unique experience, and that long-time Cranbrook enthusiasts will be surprised and delighted at every hole.”
Here is a description of each hole (and a bonus hole) at the Cranbrook Art Museum:
Bridge: Start your game at our bonus hole! Play through the famous Cranbrook Gates and around the Cranbrook Schools Fountain Quadrangle.
Bright side up: Kingswood Auditorium was turned upside down in this skee-ball inspired hole.
Bronze from Bertoia: Strike a chord with the Sonambient sound sculpture inspired hole by Harry Bertoia.
Distorted frame: Smash your way through obstacles on Studio Loja Saarinen’s Mat #2.
Sunken garden: Lose yourself in the hedges of the garden below… but don’t lose your ball in the flowerbeds!
Driving: Take a turn on the potter’s wheel. Drop your ball inside the ship and spin the wheel. Play among ceramic giants, like Maija Grotell.
Shanty of legs: Sit down! Move! Distract your opponents by adding your own legs as obstacles in this take inspired by Eero Saarinen’s iconic Tulip chair (which was his take on a traditional “leg slum” table and chairs).
Steggy’s Escape: Cranbrook’s favorite dinosaur has escaped! Camouflaged in Ruth Adler Schnee’s Strata fabric, can you find it?
Billiard ball Triton: The Triton pool has been transformed into a giant table football! Don’t be caught dancing with Carl Milles’ sea creatures. You must pass the Tritons to score!
Peristyle game: Complete your game in Cranbrook’s grandest architecture. A portal has opened in the Fountain of Orpheus – can you walk through it? Or will the Peristyle become your limescale trap?
