EDINBURGH, TX – The City of Edinburgh, the UTRGV and the South Texas Literacy Coalition invite the public to Community Day of the International Festival of Books and Art (FESTIBA) 2022. This year, FESTIBA runs from February 26 to March 6 with a myriad of festivities and events including FESTIBA Community Day will be held in the courtyard of Edinburgh Town Hall located at 415 W. University Dr. on Saturday, March 5, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Each year, the festival aims to celebrate art and literature through the many entertaining and educational activities for children, special appearances by authors, cultural performances and art exhibitions that take place during the event. This year, the City of Edinburgh has partnered with the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley and the South Texas Literacy Coalition to include a StoryWalk featuring the children’s book, TK’s 1st Lesson by local author David Leija . A StoryWalk is an innovative way for kids to read a book while enjoying the health benefits of being outdoors. Each page of the book will be placed along a path where community members can walk and read the story at the same time.
The event will also feature various artists, authors and poets selling their books and artwork, providing a perfect opportunity to find unique gifts. The Hidalgo County Library System will also be on hand to promote literacy programs at Hidalgo County’s 13 public libraries, along with various nonprofit and student organizations promoting their services.
The mission of the South Texas Literacy Coalition is to improve and enrich the quality of life in our region through literacy awareness programs through community partnerships that lead to more literate communities. FESTIBA Community Day is a great example of this initiative as STLC, UTRGV and the City of Edinburgh’s Library and Cultural Arts Department join in celebrating art and literacy!
The International Book and Arts Festival (FESTIBA) was established in 2006 to promote the importance of literacy, culture and the arts to students, parents, educators and community members across the Rio Grande Valley. For more information visit https://www.utrgv.edu/festiba/
